Israeli airstrikes injure 2 in Gaza
02.01.2011, Israel Israeli warplanes launched attacks early Sunday morning on two sites in the Gaza Strip leaving two Palestinians injured, medics said.
Locals said the first airstrike targeted a training field for Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, in Jabalia in northern Gaza. Medics said one Palestinian was injured and the strike caused serious damage to the field and neighboring homes.
Meanwhile, Israeli fighter jets fired missiles at an open area west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. One civilian was injured and transferred to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah, medics said.
A statement from the Israeli military said the strikes targeted "a Hamas terror activity center in the northern Gaza Strip and a weapons manufacturing facility in the central Gaza Strip."
The army said attacks were in response to a projectile fired at the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council on Saturday. The projectile caused no injuries.
