Tzitzit for Krivoy Rog
05.07.2011, Community Life The commandment of wearing Tzitzit (ritual fringes) attached to a four-cornered garment (Talit) is a Biblical command. The STARS program for young Jewish adults came up with an innovative and creative way to make sure the Beit Stern Shulman Synagogue in Krivoy Rog would have “kosher” Talitot with Tzitzit. They arranged a workshop to teach students how to prepare new Tzitzit and repair old ones.
“Now that they have learned the process, students of the STARS program prepare the Talitot in their spare time,” explained Rabbi Yaakov Dovid-Shamraevsky. “In the near future we hope that we will have enough Talitot for everyone.”
Tzitzit serve as a reminded to a Jew of his obligation to fulfill all of the commandments of the Torah. Moreover, Jewish teachings state that, "Everyone who has a mezuzah on his doorway, wears Tzitzit on his clothes and tefillin on the head will be saved from sin.”
