Gan Israel Lugansk Concludes Season
16.07.2011, Community Life The Lugansk Gan Israel summer camp for boys, organized by the Jewish community of Lugansk, has wound up the 2011 season. The camp ran from June 29 to July 10 in the village of Kyrylivka on the coast of the Azov Sea. This year's camp had in attendance about 80 children from various cities, including Donetsk, Dneprodzerzhinsk, Krivoy Rog, Zaporozhye, Kiev, Lugansk, Mariupol, and even Rostov-on-Don (Russia).
The theme of this camp was "Twelve Days Around the World." “Every day was devoted to a particular country,” explained camp director Sergei Kreydun. “The classes, evening activities, and games for each particular day were devoted to that country. Thus, for a change, the youngsters not only had a good rest and restored their health, but also learned many interesting facts about different countries, as well as the history of the local Jewish communities, synagogues and Jewish life in those countries nowadays.”
The fact that the boys had a really good rest is confirmed by the camp’s fun-filled action-packed program. The children started each day with a Torah class, and continued on with sports and other activities. Arts and crafts and computer graphics classes were also part of the schedule.
