New Kosher Café Opens in Moscow
01.11.2011, Community Life On November 1, Moscow witnessed the opening of a new kosher cafe. At the request of the popular chain “Chocolatnitsa,” the Kashrut Department of the Chief Rabbinate of Russia enabled the Chocolatnitsa on Sadovaya-Kudrinskaya Street to become kosher. Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar issued the institution a certificate of kashrut to the “Chocolatnitsa Coffee House” located near two metro stations.
Chocolatnitsa’s leading chefs, together with specialists from the Kashrut Department of the Chief Rabbinate of Russia developed the menu, which combines the chain’s corporate identity with observance of all of the laws of kashrut. The new café will be dairy.
“The menu here is different from what you will find at the other Chocolatnitsa establishments. First, there are no meat products. Secondly, there are items on the menu that are exclusive to this branch, including salads with tuna and salmon.,” explained Anna Adanina, the Executive Director of the “Chocolatnitsa” chain.
This latest development highlights the growing possibilities for Jews observing the Jewish dietary laws in the Russian capital, enhancing the availability of diverse options for residents of and visitors to Moscow.
