New Jewish Center in S. Petersburg
07.11.2011, Community Life Jews of S. Petersburg celebrated the opening of a new Jewish Community Center in the Primorskiy district of the city this past Shabbat. The new JCC is located in the Stroydom shopping complex. The center is 1,240 square feet and has space for prayers, communal Shabbat meals and community events.
All those in attendance live within walking distance of the center. Everybody welcomed Shabbat together and then enjoyed a special Kiddush in honor of the center’s opening.
“Finally, we can celebrate Shabbat properly! The Great Choral Synagogue is too far for us to walk to on Shabbat,” explained one of the participants. “We realized that there are many Jews living in this part of the city who observe Shabbat or would appreciate a Shabbat experience. We decided to give people the opportunity to spend Shabbat somewhere within walking distance and close to home,” commented Rabbi Danny Ash, who will serve as the JCC’s rabbi.
The Jewish Community Center in the Primorskiy district is located at 4 Kommendantsky Prospect, entrance 9, 2nd floor. For further information, Rabbi Danny Ash can be reached by telephone at +7-911-701-1486.
