According to Sevastopol’s Jewish community, the request for land for a Synagogue from the local government was filed in 2005.
“At first, the selection of the proposed site obtained the consent of the management of the Sevastopol Administration and architect Gorstroya. “But then, various difficulties arose,” said a spokesperson for the community’s leader Rabbi Binyamin Wolff. “The next stage was finding the location of our community’s Choral Synagogue before the Second World War. The location was found, and a new request for this site was filed but later rejected.”
Finally, it was decided by the city council members that the site proposed in the first call would receive approval. On May 15, 2011 the Jewish community received the land ​​and construction finally began.
The future synagogue will be a fabulous three-storey building with a total area equivalent to one thousand square meters.
