Hundreds of members from the Jewish community of Nikolayev and its surroundings gathered to celebrate the 18th of Elul with a new Torah Scroll donated to the thriving Ukrainian community.
After finishing writing the last letters of the Torah Scroll, donated by Mr. Israel Alashwilli and Mr. Avraham Alashwilli, the entire community participated in a colorful parade led by the community’s Rabbi, the pupils of the ‘Or Avner’ Jewish School, an Army-band and local police that closed up the city’s main streets so the parade could proceed. The parade ended up at the local Synagogue & JCC, where dancing and a festive meal followed.
