NYPD arrests man for burning Jewish religious objects on Holocaust Remembrance Day
12.04.2013, Anti-Semitism A man accused of torching Jewish religious objects in Brooklyn has been arrested on hate crime charges.
The New York Police Department said Thursday that charges against Ruben Ubiles include burglary, arson and criminal mischief as hate crimes.
Authorities say 12 mezuzahs have been vandalized recently in a public housing development in Williamsburg.
The first discovery was made Monday, which was Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Mezuzahs are parchments inscribed with religious texts and attached to doorposts.
The defendant has denied wrongdoing through his Facebook page. It was not immediately known who would represent him in court.
