Jews in Ukraine Outraged at “Berkut” Anti-Semitic Propaganda

                  25.01.2014, Anti-Semitism

Eleonora Groisman, chairperson of the all-Ukrainian NGO “Ukrainian Independent Council of Jewish Women,” sent an open letter to President Yanukovich and MIA Head Zakharchenko due to the rampant anti-Semitism of the “Berkut” special forces unit Facebook page.

Groisman’s address reads: “We are outraged by the fact that the “Berkut-Ukraine” Facebook page, which is an information page for this Ukrainian special forces unit, is full of rabid anti-Semitism and extremism.” Over a thousand Facebook users have liked the page and over a thousand and a half are discussing it. Among those who have supported “Berkut” are pro-government public figures, lawyers, politicians, and journalists.

The “Berkut” Facebook page is full of materials concerning “the Jewish roots and connections” of opposition leaders, such as Yulia Tymoshenko, Vitaliy Klichko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, and Oleg Tyahnybok. “Jews Who Helped Nazis,” “Jews in the Vermacht,” “Collaborationist Jews,” “Zionists - Hitler’s Pets,” “Nazi-Zionist Coat of Arms” are just a few among the article titles on that page. The page is also full of Nazi swastikas overylaying the Star of David.

“We believe that the so-called ‘educational goals’ of the “Berkut-Ukraine” MIA special forces unit in the popular Facebook network are aimed at siccing the population onto the Jews, as if they were at fault for everything that is wrong with the world. This is inciting inter-ethnic hatred and a call for violence against the Jews,” Groisman notes.
