Tel Aviv's White Night on June 26 : the 'nonstop city'
20.06.2014, Israel Downtown Tel Aviv has the largest concentration in the world of buildings designed in the Bauhaus international architecture style, giving the city its special standing in the heritage of modern architectural culture.
Tel Aviv's "White City" – a historic and unique urban fabric – was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the UN body for education and culture, in 2003.
Since then, the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality has marked UNESCO's declaration every year through a series of White Night events that incorporate another added value of the city: namely, that it is a "nonstop city."
Tel Aviv-Yafo offers a warm home to many cultural institutions, and to artists and creators, which are nurtured by the city and feed its pulse. Tel Aviv-Yafo is a muse and source of inspiration for widespread and diverse cultural undertakings, and is open to any display of original thinking.
White Night is a celebration featuring dozens of events that take place at the same time throughout the city – both outdoors and at cultural centers – starting in the early hours of the evening and ending in the wee hours of the morning.
The events are open to the public, either free of charge or for a nominal fee, and they are invited to enjoy a large variety of musical, theater and dance performances, sing-along, folk dancing, selections from operas, classical music recitals, jazz ensembles, rock and alternative music concerts, video presentations, meetings with artists and creators, art sales, poetry readings, discussions about literature and philosophy, nighttime athletic activities, yoga lessons at dawn, fashion and accessories events, shopping, street parades, special nighttime menus at restaurants and cafes, parties at clubs, lectures, guided tours sponsored by the Global City and Tourism Administration, and decorative illumination of Bauhaus buildings in the White City district.
In all the years of its existence, White Night has been a huge success among all those who have taken part. This year as well, cultural and art institutions in the city have come on board in record numbers.
