The head of Italy’s Jewish community has announced the launch of a special hotline where victims of anti-Semitic attacks and witnesses can report the incident.
Renzo Gattegna, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, explained that the 'Antenna Anti-Semitism' will be accessible by phone and online.
‘’The goal of the initiative is to nullify any threat of hatred and discrimination. It is a concrete effort for the benefit of the entire community especially now that old biases are back even in the most advanced and democratic societies,” he said.
“Antenna Anti-Semitism” will verify the reports, store them and use it to deepen the knowledge of prejudice and hostility towards the Jewish population.
The hotline was launched with the backing of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) and the Foundation of Jewish Contemporary Documentation of Milan (CDEC)
Anti-Semitic chants and threats were reported across Italy over the course of this summer's demonstrations against Israel's military operation in Gaza.
