                  04.02.2015, Israel

An IDF officer was injured by a landmine explosion in the northern Golan Heights on Wednesday while she was carrying out work near the border fence with Syria.
An army spokeswoman said it was unclear how the mine got to where it was, adding that the military is investigating. An army source said the mine appeared to have been swept from its original location by weather conditions, saying it was likely an accident.
The officer was transported by helicopter to Rambam Medical Center's surgical ward in Haifa in moderate-to-serious condition. Her life was not in danger, according to a statement from the hospital. The hospital released a statement after the surgery saying it was carried out successfully, but the officer's injured foot had to be amputated.
As many as 100,000 landmines laid during the 1950s and 1960s are estimated to be found in the Golan Heights. Several people have been injured by landmine explosions over the years.
The Knesset passed the Minefield Clearance Act in 2011 to set up an authority which began clearing mines in 2012.
The incident came after an IDF soldier was injured in an accidental ammunition explosion at a base in Tel Arad in the South on Tuesday.
