A Jewish-funded memorial in London has been desecrated with raw meat in what appears to be a anti-Semitic attack.
The Edward VII Drinking Fountain on Whitechapel Road, Tower Hamlets in East London, was seen covered in chicken and slabs of red meat.
The fountain, designed by sculptor William Silver Frith, was a tribute to the eldest son of Queen Victoria. It was paid for by the area's Jewish residents in the early 20th century. The statue was placed in 1911 when the East End's residents were mostly Jewish immigrants.
The inscription on the fountain reads: "In grateful and loyal memory of Edward VII, Rex et Imperator, Erected by subscriptions raised by Jewish inhabitants of East London, 1911."
Earlier this month, a Nazi swastika was daubed outside a Jewish school in the British capital.
The symbol was scrawled on a fence outside Beis Chinuch Lebonos Girls School in Hackney with the words “Yid s”.
It was the second time the school had been targeted in little over a month.
The word “Yid” means Jew in Yiddish but has become a racial slur.
