Dutch rabbi and his brother in law victims of stone throwing in Brussels park
05.04.2016, Anti-Semitism A young rabbi from Holland walking with his brother in law were victims of stone throwing as they walked in a Brussels park on their way to the synagogue Saturday afternoon, the Brussels police confirmed.
‘’A complaint has been made and investigation of the perpetrators is underway”, a police spokesperson told daily newspaper La Capitale.
The incident occurred in the Forest Park as the rabbi, who had come to visit from the Netherlands, was walking with his brother in law who lives in Brussels. They crossed three Muslim people in the park who started to throw rocks on them for one reason only: being visibly Jewish.”
No one was hurt in the incident.
Fearing that the situation escalates, the two Jewish men decided not to react and continue their way and search for of a police officer. Failing to find one quickly, they reported the incident to the head of security at the synagogue, who then informed the police.
‘’A judiciary case has been opened and will be forwarded to the prosecutor," a police spokesperson said.
The Dutch rabbi said he has had anti-Semitic insults hurled at him sometimes in the Netherlands, but never stones.
