Anti-Israel statements makes him unfit to be adviser on diversity of Belgian government minister
07.09.2016, Anti-Semitism A Belgian government official who said Israel was “an identical twin” of the Islamic State terrorist group and compare the Jewish State to ‘’a modern Nazi Germany,’’ was forced to resign as a minister’s adviser on diversity.
Youssef Kobo, the Muslim adviser on diversity for Bianca Debaets, the minister in charge of equal opportunity in the Brussels' regional government, offered to resign after finding he could no longer fulfill his duties, a ministry spokesperson told the Belgian media.
Kobo had also posted on facebook a caricature of Israel cutting the throat of the Gaza Strip, during Israel’s conflict against Hamas terror group in Gaza in 2014.
Kobo described a video of Israeli troops as “21st century Nazis.”
Last month, the Belgian League Against Anti-Semitism (LBCA) accused Kobo of anti-Semitism, saying that his statements make him unfit to advise on tolerance and especially on anti-Semitism.
"He works in a key position which includes issues related to anti-Semitism," said LBCA president Joel Rubinfeld. ‘’He cannot be both arsonist and fireman."
"Anti-Zionism is the modern form of anti-Semitism where hatred of the Jewish state has replaced the hatred of the Jew," he added.
Rubinfeld noted that Israel is connected to the phenomenon often called “new anti-Semitism,” in which anti-Israel sentiment becomes a veil for anti-Semitism. In France, Belgium and the Netherlands, most anti-Semitic assaults are by people with a Muslim background, watchdogs in those countries have said.
Kobo had apologized for his anti-Israel remarksvitriol against Israel, arguing that he was “young and stupid” when he wrote the ‘’emotional’’ Facebook posts in 2014.
