Unknown vandals have once again poured paint over a memorial stone located in the center of Mogilev city, Belarus. The memorial is dedicated to Jews who were victims of the Nazis.
Information about the act of vandalism initially appeared on a social network. It is likely that the crime was conducted on November 19, 2016, during the day. The huge stone, carved with traces of open palms and an inscription in both Russian and Hebrew, has been
covered in black paint. Ales Asiptsov, a journalist with BelaPAN, went to investigate the scene and called the police, who have already recorded his testimony.
The previous desecration of the memorial took place on June 3, 2012, when the memorial was covered in brown paint. The police believes that the desecration was unintentional: according to their version, someone simply had been carrying a glass jar full of paint and broke it over the stone by accident. The Jewish community does not believe in this version, especially as an absolutely whole glass jar that used to hold brown paint was found in the nearby bushes.
