Second Jewish cemetery vandalised in the US in one week
27.02.2017, Anti-Semitism For the second time in a week, a Jewish cemetery was desecrated in the US.
Dozens of tombstones were found overturned at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Philadelphia.
One week ago, the Chesed Chel Emet Jewish cemetery near St. Louis, Missouri, suffered similar vandalism. US Vice President Mike Pence visited the vandalized cemetery and helped in the cleanup effort. “There is no place in America for hatred or acts of prejudice or violence or antisemitism,” he stated.
President Donald Trump said anti-Semitism is “horrible” and “has to stop” as he was speaking in the wake of a spate of bomb threats to Jewish community centers across the country. Several of these centers had to be evacuated.
"The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible and are painful and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil," Trump told reporters.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and federal and local agencies have warned of a historic spike in antisemitic incidents over the past year, and especially since the elections in November.
The ADL headquarters in New York City also received a bomb threat.
