“The Jewish people’s glorious history in Israel started in Hebron. No UNESCO lies and FAKE HISTORY can change that. Truth is eternal..’’

With this tweet, Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Emanuel Nahshon reacted to the vote of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee TO register the Cave of the Patriarchs as a ‘’Palestinian Heritage site in danger.’’ In a secret ballot vote 12 countries approved the inscription of Hebron’s Old Town and the Cave, three objected and six abstained.

The UNESCO decision ‘’is a moral blot. Shame on UNESCO,” Nahshon also tweeted.

Israel’s Ambassador to UNESCO Carmel Shama HaCohen took out his cell phone in response and said, “Mr. Chairman. It’s my plumber in my apartment in Paris. There is a huge problem in my toilet and it is much more important than the decision you just adopted.”

"This is a badge of shame for UNESCO who time after time chooses to stand on the side of lies," said Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely.

She added that "in spite of the efforts of senior diplomats in the foreign ministry who have tried in the past weeks to thwart the decision that denies history, and despite the achievement of the secret vote, the automatic Arab majority succeeded in passing the proposed resolution that attempts to appropriate the national symbols of the Jewish people.’’

‘’In another thousand years, the Cave of the Patriarchs will remain under Jewish sovereignty and UNESCO will cease to exist as a heritage organization,’’ said.

Hotovely further added "the same automatic majority would also have passed a resolution that the sun rises in the west and not in the east. Israel will not surrender to historic distortion and will continue the fight against the bias of UN institutions regarding Israel."

The membership of this year’s Heritage committee includes five countries with which Israel does not have diplomatic ties, and a number of others that routinely support pro-Palestinian resolutions. The 21 member states are Angola, Azerbaijan, Burkina Faso, Croatia, Cuba, Finland, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Tunisia, Turkey, Tanzania, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

The Tomb of the Patriarchs, revered as the Biblical burial place of the Jewish patriarchs and matriarchs, is Judaism’s second holiest site.

Israel says the Hebron resolution — which refers to the city as “Islamic” — denies thousands of years of Jewish connection there.

In a statement, the Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC) deplored UNESCO's decision.''This disgraceful decision, in which UNECO has totally acquiesced to the Palestinian campaign of lies, incitement and hatred, is a total fabrication of history and inversion of truth, denying unquestionable Jewish connection to the city of Hebron and the Cave of the Patriarchs, the second holiest site in Judaism,'' it said. .

The decision follows a spate of other recent outrageous resolutions passed by UNESCO, including another only this week, again denying Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem.

''It does not matter how many resolutions UNESCO seeks to pass, it will never deny the truth, history and Jewish connection to our Holy Sites,'' the IJC said.

''But enough is enough, the international community must once and for allstand up to the Palestinian hijacking of UN bodies such as UNESCO for political purposes to spread their campaign of hate, lies and terror against the State of Israel and the Jewish people,'' it concluded.
