EnerJew Celebrates End of Season, Keeps Up Summer Activities
02.08.2017, Community Life School is out for summer in the countries of the former Soviet Union, and teenagers from 34 EnerJew clubs across the region also took a break from weekly meetings and activities. However, a large part of them enrolled as staff in the region’s FJC Jewish Summer camps, connecting to younger campers and bringing to them the special “EnerJew vibe”, as they say.
“Campers love EnerJew activities, which are always superbly organized and very interesting,” said Mrs.Yael Yoffe, one of the leaders of the Jewish community of Volgograd, about the city’s Gan Israel camp.
EnerJew counsellors are using the opportunity to apply their leadership skills and Jewish knowledge gained throughout the year. “We learn so much about developing initiative, applying our ideas, learning how to connect to those around us during the year and now in the summer working in camps really gives us the opportunity to apply that knowledge, which is just a lot of fun in the first place,” said Sasha Kirienko, from Gan Israel camp Moscow.
Among the themes at camp so far were “Prominent Women in Jewish History”, “In the Footsteps of the Wisemen” and many more. “EnerJew is a powerful force that brings together over a thousand teenagers with their energy, creativity and drive. They make a big difference in the lives of their cities’ communities and in the region overall,” said Konstantin Shulman, EnerJew director.
