Interregional Meeting of the Council of Vaad in Russia and leaders of regional local Jewish National-Cultural Autonomies took pl
12.12.2002 In 8th-9th December, right after Khanuka holiday has been finished, the interregional Meeting of the Council of Vaad in Russia and the leaders of local Jewish national-cultural autonomies dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Vaad in Russia took place in Ekaterinburg. Leaders of Jewish organizations and communities of Ural region have taken part in the Meeting.
The president of Vaad in Russia, Mikhail Chlenov; Vaad Vice-President and a member of Vaad Presidium, the head of the regional Vaad Council "Bolshoy Ural", Mikhail Oshtrakh, have presented reports on 10–years activity.
The reports have provoked lively exchange of opinions due to which participants have cleared out current condition and structure of Jewish life in Russia. The special attention in Mikhail Chlenov`s report was given to the information about Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), where he has been occupying the position of the Secretary General since the organization was established. Mikhail Chlenov has determined EAJC as the new dynamic factor of the Jewish post-Soviet life.
During the Meeting they have accepted resolution on anti-Semitism, new tendencies in the sphere of state secondary education and prospects of the further development of the Federal Jewish National-Cultural Autonomy (FJNCA).
Representatives of city authorities, Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) and American Jewish distributing Committee "Joint" welcomed the participants of the Meeting.
The anniversary has been celebrated by the concert of the chorus of Mikhail Turetsky together with the chief Cantor of choral synagogues of Moscow and St. Petersburg. At the improvised banquet, held in the office of the Ural Regional Council of Vaad in Russia, the participants thanked the veteran of the independent Jewish movement, Mikhail Oshtrakh, for the high organizational level of conducting the Meeting.
