APPEAL of the Vaad of Ukraine apropos the “VEK” newspaper publishing of July 8, 2003.
20.07.2003 This Appeal was resolved by the Vaad of Ukraine on July 20, 2003 by 9 voices; 2 abstained.
At a special session, the Vaad of Ukraine Presidium discussed the signed Application, directed against the Vaad Chairman Mr. Josef Zissels. The Vaad of Ukraine considers the form and content of the aforementioned Application, through its cynicism and demagogy, a precursor for the Jewish communities of the postwar world.
The Presidium believes the Application published by the VEK newspaper a provocation not only for Mr. Josef Zissels, but for the Vaad of Ukraine itself, which is an active and democratic all-Ukrainian Jewish organization that represents 265 Jewish organizations and communities in 94 Ukrainian cities. As the Vaad Chairman, Mr. Josef Zissels has relied on the decisions adopted by the Vaad structural bodies, and in this way, any attack on Mr. Zissels is also an attack on the Vaad of Ukraine.
The organizers of the Application intended to exclude one of the most active and authoritative executives from Jewish life in Ukraine, whose conscious life has been devoted to the struggle for the Jewish Community of Ukraine rights, its rebirth and deserved existence.
The Vaad of Ukraine Presidium confirms its absolute support of Mr. Josef Zissels and the organization’s readiness to work together on his various projects, and the implementation of initiatives.
The Vaad of Ukraine Presidium appeals to all Jewish organizations and communities within Ukraine to remain devoted to the small Jewish executives group, and not to tolerate the further dishonoring of Ukraine’s Jewish community.
