The statement of the Jewish Community of Armenia in support of Joseph Zissels, the EAJC General Council Chairman, the Vaad of Uk

                  29.07.2003

Dear members of the Council of Leaders of All-Ukrainian (Major) Jewish Organizations,

We express our great sorrow over the current conflict in the Ukrainian Jewish community. We consider the arguments and opinions mentioned in the “Declaration” of the Council of Leaders of All-Ukrainian (Major) Jewish Organizations dubious. Joseph Zissels’ name shouldn’t be slandered, nor should it be excluded from Ukrainian Jewish life and the Jewish world. We are aware of Mr.Zissels’ activities, and support them. The formation of our community is closely connected with the Vaad of Russia, Vaad of Ukraine and J.Zissels’ personal work – his articles, editions, projects and programs. He is an outstanding person in the Jewish world.
Malevolence and selfish ambitions threaten to ruin everything we have created for years of our struggle to revive Jewish life. We shouldn’t let personal emotions prevail over national unity wisdom.
We support Joseph Zissels, our friend and great public figure.
We hope the Jewish community will set a good example for other small communities by resolving this issue quickly and peacefully.

On behalf of the Council of the Jewish Community of Armenia.

Chairman of the Jewish Community of Armenia,
General Council Member, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress,
Coordination Council Member, the World Congress of Russian Jewry
