A competition of translations of Jewish National poetry by Chaim Nakhman Bialik is under way in Moscow now. Jewish Agency for Israel in Russia with assistance of the Embassy of Israel in Russia devoted the competition to the 130-th anniversary since the poet's birth and the 56-th anniversary of Israeli's independence.
More than 150 people, including representatives of Russian Jewish Communities, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), and other organizations attended the opening ceremony.
The competition will last up to the end of March, 2004. Its results are to be announced during the celebration of Isareli's Independence Day.
Mark Zaichik, Chief of the Jewish Agency in Russia, noted that the interest of Russia's intelligentsia to Jewish and Israeli authors testified that the relations between our states had the prospect of development not only at the official level, but also in the sphere of cultural dialogue.
