Conference of European Youth Zionist Organizations / EAJC Participation Strasbourg, France, November 26-28, 2004
28.11.2004 Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), President of the Federal Jewish National-Cultural Autonomy (FJNCA) Michael Chlenov participated in the Conference of European Zionist Youth Organizations that took place in Strasbourg on November 26-28, 2004.
The Conference initiated by Israeli Minister for Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs Natan Sharansky was dedicated to the struggle against anti-Semitism.
Michael Chlenov and EAJC General Council Chairman, Vaad of Ukraine Chairman Joseph Zissels discussed the agenda of this Forum with Natan Sharansky in Jerusalem two weeks before the Conference.
Strasbourg Conference hosted more than 300 leaders of Jewish youth organizations from 20 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and Germany.
Michael Chlenov delivered several lectures on the characteristic features of the contemporary anti-Semitism in the countries of European Union (EU) and CIS, and held a seminar on the methods of competing with this threat. He introduced the audience to EAJC activities aimed at opposing anti-Semitism and organizing inter-religious dialog – international Jewish-Islamic dialog especially – with representatives of different religions.
Jewish cemetery had recently been desecrated in Strasbourg. When the Conference was over, its participants gathered by the graves to clean the monuments of anti-Semitic inscriptions. However, the police prohibited that referring to the fact that removing the traces of vandalism would complicate the investigation process.
Headed by Natan Sharansky all those present expressed their protest in that respect.
