EAJC expresses their great concern in connection with the anti-Jewish Address to the Public Prosecutor Office of the Russian Fed
31.01.2005
The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) expresses their great concern in connection with the anti-Jewish Address to the Public Prosecutor Office of the Russian Federation signed by several Members of the State Duma (lower chamber) of the Russian Federal Parliament.
That official letter was published at the same time when memorial services were held dedicated to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp 60th anniversary liberation by Red Army that gathered leaders of the democratic states and international organizations. The letter was actually to discredit those solemn ceremonies in Russia.
Despite public political denunciation of such activities made by President of Russia Vladimir Putin and respective reaction from many Russian political, public, religious and cultural figures that followed some signatories of that letter did not renounce their position. Such situation signifies that anti-Semitism has already taken roots in the state establishments.
The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress calls for immediate investigation of that extremist act made by the Russian MPs group and insists on including in the Parliament Agenda special hearings to make political and legal assessment of anti-Semitism in the Russian Federation.
We believe that the Russian Parliament, Government, community, clergy, and all the citizens of Russia would never let double standards be applied to anti-Semites as they would never tolerate those, who damaging the State system and international image of the Russian Federation as well as those, who resuscitate the Soviet-style anti-Semitism, that seemed to, had already fallen into oblivion.
