Congratulation of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Leaders on Hanukkah.
23.12.2005
Dear friends and colleagues!
On behalf of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress we wish you happy Hanukkah!
More than two thousands years ago, when the Jews were under the Greek-Syrian yoke, the kind Antioch VI (Epiphan) decided to oppress Jews by means of depriving them of their traditions and roots. Those who don't want to listen to the news rules of oppressors decided to form partisan troops, which started their struggle with oppressors.
After long war Jews obtained freedom. On Kislev 25, 3622 according to the Jewish calendar (138 year before a.d) Jerusalem Temple was again consecrated.
The oil for the Menorah was enough only for one day. It took 8 days to make the new oil. But it was decided to light the Menorah and after to prepare new oil. The miracle happened and it was one portion of oil enough for 8 days. The holiday is dedicated to this miracle not to the victory that they got in the war. That’s why we light Hanukkah candles.
Let the Hanukkah remind us about the covenant of Jewish people and All-Mighty, which gives us miracles, happiness and strength.
Hag Sameah,
Sincerely Yours,
Alexander Machkevich The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President, Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan President Mikhail Chlenov The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Secretary, Va'ad of Russia President Josef Zissels The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Chairman, Va'ad of Ukraine Chairman
