The 2nd Congress of the World Azerbaijanis was held on March 16, 2006 in Baku in the Heydar Aliyev Palace. It hosted 1331 representatives from 49 countries of the world and 388 special guests, including Telman Ismailov, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Vice-President, and Joseph Zisels, the EAJC General Council Chairman.
The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev opened the Congress and greeted the participants. The forum adopted a number of documents and it was found advisable to work out a conception of the Azerbaijan Diasporas activity.
Telman Ismailov was honored with a government award for personal contribution in development of the Azerbaijani state system and received a medal "Tereggi" (Progress).
"The Azerbaijanis living in Diaspora are as strong in their solidarity with historical fatherland as the Jews. Azerbaijan has always been and still is an example of tolerance in the interethnic and inter-confessional sphere", - pressed statement J. Zissels when the Congress was over.
