The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) High-Level Conference on Combating Discrimination and Promoting Mutual Respect and Understanding was opened in Bucharest, Romania with an honorary reception.
The reception was organized by American Jewish Committee (AJC), Anti-Defamation League (ADL), B'nai B'rith International, NCSJ and Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC).
"We are grateful to OSCE for the number of forums, the first among which were held in Berlin and Cordoba, where counter standing hatred for Jews is being discussed in the all-European context. Nowadays xenophobes and so-called "new anti-Semites" coordinate their actions internationally. That is why it is necessary to give them an elaborate and precise answer within whole Europe, from Atlantics to the Urals", - EAJC Secretary General, Vaad of Russia President Michael Chlenov said to the journalists.
In the course of the Conference, which was organized by Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by Spanish Chairmanship of the OSCE, officials and civil society leaders of most European states discuss issues of counteraction to various forms of racism, anti-Semitism, Islam hatred, Christian discrimination, fighting xenophobia in mass media and Internet, and also development of tolerance with the help of educational and humanitarian programs.
"The most important condition of inter-confession dialogue we are conducting is a condemnation of any forms of religious intolerance. I am convinced that our experience of anti-Semitism counteraction will be useful to everyone leading similar struggle for the rights of other ethnic and religious Diasporas of Europe", - EAJC Secretary General stressed.
