Presentation of the novel "Man from Babylon" / EAJC Participation.
04.02.2008
The novel "Man from Babylon" was presented on February, 4 in the Russian Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography. The author is Guram Batiashvili, the famous prose and play-writer, Euro-Asian Congress (EAJC) General Council member, editor-in-chief of the "Menora" newspaper.
The presentation was opened by the head of the Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography Mikhail Shvydkoy, a longtime friend of the author. Alexander Ebanoidze, editor-in-chief of the "Druzhba narodov" ("Friendship of Peoples") magazine, spoke about the literary merits of the novel, and the EAJC Secretary General Mikhail Chlenov charactarized the book from the history and ethnography points of view.
The second part of the evening was the viewing of a documentary "If I forget you, Jerusalem…", the screenplay for which was also written by Guram Batiashvili. It is a breathtaking story about the people, who signed the famous "18 Georgian Jews letter", which served as sort of a "trigger" for mass repatriation of the Soviet Jews to Israel. The Knesset delegate of two convocations Efraim Gur, who assisted the filming in Georgia and Israel, also attended the presentation.
All the participants agreed on the high artistic values of both the book and the film.
