Demonstrations in Support of Israel in Kiev
14.01.2009
Approximately 300 people gathered today in front of the Israeli State Embassy in Kiev to show their solidarity to the Israeli people in the difficult situation that has developed in their region. The attendants of the rally were diverse: there were youth and middle-aged people with children, participants of the Second World War and former prisoners of concentration camps and ghettos. All speeches made stressed: the time when Jews were allowed to be killed only because they were Jews is over. The IDF is forced to lead a defensive war to provide safety for the peaceful civilians of the people of South Israel. Muslims and Arabs are not necessarily enemies of Israel — the IDF targets only the terrorist infrastructure and the militants.
Among the speakers were the Ambassador of Israel to Ukraine Zina Kalai-Kleitman, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Jewish Comittee, People's Deputy of Ukraine Alexander Feldman, the Chairman of the General Council of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Chairman of the Vaad of Ukraine Josef Zissels, and others.
The Ukrainian Jewish Committee and the Ukrainian Jewish Student Union were organizers of the rally. The rally commenced under the protection of the police and SBU.
