Visit of the Chairman of the General Council of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress to Georgia

On the 2-3 of June, the chairman of the General Council of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Joseph Zisels visited Georgia.
The goal of the visit was to supervise the restoration work being done on the Ashkenazi synagogue in Tbilisi. The agreement to restore the status of the synagogue was reached in February 2008, during the visit of a united diplomatic mission of the EAJC and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations to Georgia, headed by the President of the Congress Alexander Mashkevich and the Executive Director of the Conference Malcom Hoenlein.
The construction is being done with the financial support of the EAJC. The synagogue is planned to be opened on the 14th of September.
Also Joseph Zisels met with the chairman of the Public Movement "Multinational Georgia" Arnold Stepanyan. The perspective of opening the summer camp for teenagers "Roots of Tolerance" in Georgia, using the method tested by the EAJC in Ukraine.
