The Chairman of the General Council (GC) of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Joseph Zisels and member of the GC EAJC Vyacheslav Likhachev made speeches on the meeting of the Council on ethnopolitics, which took place in Kiev and was dedicated to countering xenophobia and forming tolerance in Ukrainian society.
Vyacheslav Likhachev spoke about the results of monitoring occasions of xenophobia and anti-Semitism in Ukraine, and also outlines possible paths of resistance to negative phenomena in international relations. According to the expert's opinion, juridical methods can be used with effect only versus the consequences, and not against the causes of xenophobia. A systematic resistance to this phenomenon must be realized, first and foremost, in the sphere of culture and education.
The speech of Joseph Zisels was dedicated to unique methods of educating children and teenagers on tolerance, designed for the summer camps "Roots of Tolerance," which have been held for seven years now with EAJC support. Now the EAJC is beginning to spread its experience over the entire post-Soviet region. Children from Moldavia and Belarus traditionally participate in the "Roots of Tolerance" summer camps that take place in Ukraine. Also, local camps devised according to the methods tested in Ukraine are to be held in in Moldavia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan with EAJC support.
Among those who convened at the meeting were representatives of various ministries and departments, of the law enforcement, leaders of national organizations and unions.
