EAJC President Participates in Berlin Conference
17.12.2009 The President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Alexander Mashkevich was invited to participate in the Berlin international conference "Lessons of the Second World War and Holocaust."
This conference, organized by the World Congress of Russian-Languaged Jewry with the support of the Central Council of Jews of Germany, had participants from over 20 countries – politicians, scientists, veterans, and Holocaust survivors, leaders of community organizations, diplomats, and activists of anti-war movements. Israel was represented by an impressive delegation that included a number of Knesset members and mayors of major cities.
In his speech, the EAJC President said to the journalists that "the sprouts of anti-Semitism, xenophobia, national and religious intolerance threaten to take root yet again appear on European soil. In this manner, just before this conference, a group of religious extremists defiled the Hanukkah Menorah erected in the center of the Moldovan capitol. And this is not a unique incident. Lessons not repeated, not learned thoroughly, will become forgotten in time. In the case of the lessons of war and the Holocaust such forgetfulness may be much too highly-priced."
