EAJC Representatives Take Part in “Migration in Russia” Forum
22.03.2010
Representatives of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) took part in the work of the II International Forum “Migration in Russia: Cooperation and Security,” which took part in the Moscow “President Hotel” on the 22nd of March.
The Forum was organized by the Federation of Migrants of Russia, with the support of the Public Chamber of Russia.
The pan-Russian nongovernmental organization Federation of Migrants in Russia was created in 2007 through the initiative of leaders of foreign diasporas, with the support of the Department of Internal Policy of the Administration of Presidential Affairs of the RF. The Federation unites representatives of over 40 countries from both the FSU and from outside of it, and its main goal is to form the legal life of migrants, including aiding them in learning Russian, gaining an education, and preserving their historic and cultural values with consideration of the traditions of native Russian people.
EAJC Representatives took part in the Forum plenary meetings, work of sections, and discussion of the final documents. As one of the EAJC delegation members said, “the format and level of the Forum exemplify the readiness of the Russian state for a constructive dialogue with community structures. This dialogue was, unfortunately, somewhat forgotten recently, but today the living experience of national diasporas, which was previously out of demand, is the base for the interaction between civil society and government institutions.
