Independence Day Greetings From Alexander Mashkevich
19.04.2010
On 5 Iyar, 5708, on the day that the British mandate expired, the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel was read. Thus the new Jewish state on this Earth, the state promised by the Almighty to our forefathers, was born.
We remember well that the answer to our adoption of the Declaration of Independence was an attack on our newborn state by five neighboring Arabic states. The Israeli War of Independence, which thus begun and ended with a decisive victory, took the lives of thousands of Jews. They died so that the Jewish state could become a reality.
Israel's Independence Day is not just a state holiday. We, the Jews of the Diaspora, share our happiness and pride, memory of the heroes and hope that the right of the Jewish state to life shall never be contested, with our compatriots.
We congratulate everybody on this wonderful occasion, and wish for the skies to be always clear over the Jewish state.
EAJC President
Alexander Mashkevich
