According to the World Jewish Congress(WJC) report, USA President Barack Obama sent a letter to the President of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Alan Solow, in which he tried to soften the tension in the Jewish world towards USA Near East policy, which was presented in the recent Open Letter by WJC President Ronald S. Lauder.
In his letter of reply, President Obama stated that the Near East policy of his administration was misinterpreted, and the USA is not in any way distancing itself from Israel.
In particular, the letter reads: "All sides should understand that our commitment to Israel is unshakeable and that no wedge will be driven between us."
The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President Alexander Mashkevich commented on the existing situation, underscoring the timeliness of the publication of the Open Letter. "The positive results of this declaration are obvious," said the EAJC leader. "The certain reply of the USA President  addressed to the Jewish community instills a sureness that the political direction of the new American administration will not make Israel be the only responsible side in undoing the tangle of Near Eastern problems."
In turn, WJC President Ronald S. Lauder sent Alexander Mashkevich a letter of thanks for the support. In particular, the letter reads, "The open letter to President Obama, which we placed in the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, got many sympathetic replies from both the USA and the world. We are sent many greetings and assurances of support of our initiative from those, who are thanksful that we have expressed their own concern for the present-day state that Israel is in, its vulnerability in a hostile environment, in our open letter to the USA President. This proves that the World Jewish Congress is the joint voice of the Jewish communities which take an interest, and expresses honest concern about the safety of Israel.
I would like to thank you for supporting this initiative and for your trust in me. Today we continue to work together as true defenders of the safety of Israel and the welfare of Jewish communities around the world."
