EAJC Provides Aid to Tver Community
22.06.2010 On the 22nd of June, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has provided urgent material aid of 150 000 roubles to the Jewish community of Tver. The money shall go to restoring the synagogue damaged in a terroristic act.
The terroristic act took place in the early hours of June 21, as an explosion sounded near the synagogue entrance at about 2 AM. The amount given by the EAJC to the local community should, according to experts, cover the expenses to eliminate the consequences of the explosion.
As the EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich noted, "Urgent aid to communities which find themselves in this or that difficult situation is the direct responsibility of leading Jewish structures, including the EAJC. We try to react as quickly as possible concerning any incident that involves the lives and safety of those within a community. This time it was important to show our solidarity with the Tver community, to show the scoundrels that wished to scare the Jews that we are not afraid of them, that we will live on and keep building our community life."
