Emma Libgott Necrologue
21.12.2010 The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and VAAD Russia have learned of the demise of Emma Iosifovna Libgott, and grieve deeply. Emma Libgott was our colleague and friend of many years, a person who gave much of her personal and physical effort to the rebirth of Jewish life in the former Soviet Union and contemporary Russia.
Emma Iosifovna was among the true Jewish activists who were at the roots of the Independent Jewish movement, among those ascetic champions who came to this movement through the call of their hearts and served it selflessly and nobly.
The history of VAAD Russia, as well as the so-called Big VAAD, which begat the organized beginning of social and political activity of the Independent Jewish Movement, is unthinkable without Emma Libgott, whose charisma, professionalism kind-heartedness made the Jewish public reception rooms a welcoming home for all of those for who held dearJewish traditions, Jewish educational programs, and Jewish community initiatives.
When such people as our Emma pass away, a little bit of history dies with them. But the memory of our sister-in-arms, friend, and a wonderful good person in her own right lives on in our hearts. We understand that this loss is irreparable, and offer our great condolences to the family and friends of Emma Iosifovna. May the Almighty give them solace.
