The Chabad Russian Center of South Florida has welcomed a new Torah. The Torah scroll was donated by Emmanuil Grinshpun and Boris Litovsky, vice presidents of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC). The generous donors were inspired to make their gift by their friend and well known philanthropist, Alexander Mashkevich, the President of the Euro-Asian Jewish congress.

The Chabad Russian Center, a Jewish Russian-speaking community serving residents in South Florida, was founded in 2002 by Rabbi Alexander and Chana Kaller. The Center operates not only a synagogue but a plethora of educational and social programs for adults and children. Teachers and staff communicate with children in Russian  which makes it possible for children born and living in English-speaking environment to learn and understand the Russian language while learning and partaking in Jewish culture and history.

The guests of the ceremony were addressed by Rabbi Alexander Kaller, founder of the Chabad Russian Center. He thanked the donors, and wished them and all members of the community a long and prosperous life filled with the warmth of Torah. The Vice Mayor of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Louis Thaler and Commissioner Isaac Aelion expressed their warm feelings for the growing Jewish Russian community and its important role in the life of the city of Sunny Isles Beach.

EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich thanked his colleagues for their generosity. “We hold the commandment of Torah study sacred and try to enable the Jews around the world to fulfill this commandment. We strive to ensure that every Jewish community has scrolls of the Torah. I invite everyone who shares our desire to participate in this mission,” he said.
