EAJC Representatives Participate in Conference on Conflict Prevention
13.10.2011 Representatives of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) have taken part in the workshop conference “Prevention of violent conflicts and forming a culture of peace in multicultural societies,” which took place on October 6-9 in Crimea. The conference was organized by the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict together with Ukrainian organizations, first and foremost of which is the Integration and Development Research and Information Center, The even took place in Simferopol and Sevastopol, where the main working meetings took place. The participants of the conference also visited Eupatoria, Yalta, and Balaklava on study trips.
The conference was first and foremost dedicated to the exchange of practical experience between representatives of non-governmental organizations and international structures in civil education, the fostering of tolerance, the implementation of international standards into the coverage of conflicts in the media, as well as in monitoring and counteracting xenophobia and other forms of intolerance.
The EAJC was represented at the conference by the leaders of educational programs and projects aimed at fostering tolerance – Nataliya Bakulina and Anna Lenchovskaya, as well as the leader of the EAJC xenophobia monitoring and analysis program, EAJC General Council member Vyacheslav Likhachev. The EAJC experience in education and counteracting xenophobia sparked lively interest of the participants of the event. In particular, a preliminary agreement of cooperation had been reached with the office of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
