                  EAJC Congratulates JAFI Head on Receiving Washington Institute Award

                  The leadership of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress congratulates the Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Natan Sharansky on receiving the prestigious Scholar-Statesman Award of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy for his work in promoting liberty and human rights in Arabic countries. Past recipients of the award included Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger, Tony Blair, and George Schultz.

                  The Washington Institute for Near East Policy was founded in in 1985 and is currently one of the most authoritative institutions in the world for studying the Near East. The awarding ceremony took place in New York under the slogan “With hope for democratic change in the Near East.”

                  The EAJC salutation reads that “the consecutive battle for the rights of people, wherever they might live, remains the core of Natan Sharansky's life, both in his underground years and today, when he works in important offices. The prestigious award given to him is not just a sign of respect and esteem, but recognition for his real achievements in multi-aspected human rights activity. The EAJC wishes the head of the JAFI heath and strength for the continuation of his socially important activity.”
