                  "Synagogues of Georgia" Road Book Presented In Tbilisi

                  On January 13. the road book "Synagogues of Georgia" was presented at the Foundation for Jewish Culture and Education. The author of the road book is the director of the foundation, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress General Council member Elena Berkovich.

                  This is the first road book of its kind, a necessary and interesting work on Jewish heritage in Georgia aimed at tourists.The presentation of the brochure was received with great interest by the Jewish community. The uniqueness of this work was noted in light of the centuries-long friendship between the Georgian and the Jewish people.

                  Among the guests at the presentation were: representatives of the Embassy of Israel in Georgia, the JAFI Georgia Director, the American Jewish Joint Distrubution Committee Georgia Director, representatives of the city authorities and the International Association of Tourists and Travellers, and  important members of the Jewish community. Those present evaluated the author's idea highly, and expressed hope that more materials will be published on the Jewish heritage of Georgia.

                  Dr. Yitzhak Gerber, the Ambassador of Israel to Georgia, was the first to respond to the publication of the brochure. Evaluating the author's work highly, he said that the work was needed and substantial.
