Educational Seminar in Kostanay
01.02.2012 On January 23-25, a seminar titled “Jewish Culture: Ethics of Judaism,” a part of the Shoresh project, took place in the synagogue of the Kazakhstan city of Kostanay. This was the final seminar of the latest, two-year stage of the project. Over the course of these two years, there were 12 seminars on different aspects of Judaism: history, philosophy, tradition. The main lector and moderator of the seminar was the leader of Project Shoresh, Alexander Abramovich.
On the first working day of the seminar, a meeting took place between the President of the Mitzvah Association of Jewish Organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, EAJC General Council member Alexander Baron with the Jewish community of the cities of Kostanay and Rudniy. Over 50 people were present, including directors of chesed institutions that had come for the seminar, participants of the Shoresh project, and members of the local community. In his speech, Alexander Baron retold the story of the creation of the Mitzvah Association, which had celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011.
“The result of our work in the cities of Kazakhstan is that we all have Jewish unions, we all have places where we can go. We have gathered and are continuing to gather Jews all over Kazakhstan into one community,” Baron noted. He also stressed the international meaning of the activities of Mitzvah, in particular, its active participation in EAJC activity.
