Master's Program in Jewish Studies Approved by Kyiv-Mohyla Academic Board
03.04.2012 The National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” and the Association of Jewish Organizations and Communities of Ukraine (Vaad of Ukraine) are working on opening the first Ukrainian Master's program on Jewish Studies, aimed at educating future specialists in Jewish history and culture, in NaUKMA. Alexey Khamray, a Ph. D.in Philology, is planned to head this program. The two-year program will include disciplines in history and other humanities, specialized Jewish studies courses, and Jewish languages (Yiddish and Hebrew).
On March 29, the NaUKMA Academic Board discussed and approved the proposed Master's program in Jewish Studies. Among those who took part in the discussion were NaUKMA president Sergey Kvit, EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels, Dr. Alexey Khamray, and members of the NaUKMA Academic Board. The Academic Board also made a decision to petition the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science for opening an experimental Jewish Studies branch of study.
