EAJC Secretary General Meets with USA Senate Representatives
05.04.2012 Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General Michael Chlenov visited a reception at the residents of the Ambassador of the United States of America, where he held a working meeting with members of a delegation of representatives of the USA Senate Administration, visiting Russia to study a number of commercial and trade matters. The main topic of the meeting was a possible cancellation of the Jackson-Vanik Amendment for Russia.
The EAJC Secretary General stressed that he supports the removal of trade restrictions for Russia. “In 1974, when the Jackson-Vanik Amendment was only being introduced, I supported it,” Chlenov explained to the delegation. “It most certainly played a positive role in the fate of the Jewish community of Russia. But over the last several dozen years the situation has changed drastically, and at the moment, this amendment is no longer useful.”
