EAJC Provides Matzot for Regional Communities
06.04.2012 Before this year's Pesach, as in the last ten, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress took an active part in providing matzot for communities in different countries of its region of interest.
Matzot produced at EAJC request in Kyiv was received by Jews in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. The Congress also provided funds for Jewish communities in Bulgaria and Poland to buy and deliver matzot on their own. Approximately 49 tons of matzot were given in the EAJC's name to Jewish community members in need.
The main sponsor of this was EAJC Acting President Vadim Shulman. There was also additional financial support by other businessmen and organization, including EAJC ex-President Alexander Mashkevich, EAJC Vice President Gabriel Mirilashvili, Jewish Confederation of Ukraine (represented by Boris Fuksman, Andrei Adamovskiy, Vlad Shkolnik, and Alexander Klyuzner (Ukraine)), and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Patrons from the Jewish community of Moldova also helped sponsor the program.
Aid in organizing this event was given by the President of the Mitzvah Association of Jewish Organizations of Kazakhstan, EAJC General Council member Alexander Baron and Mitzvah worker Inessa Chugainova, who received the matzot in Almaty and organized its transfer from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan; Kyrgyzstan rabbi Aryeh Raichman, who organized the transfer of the matzot from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan; and the regional head of the “Joint” Caucasus, Central Asia, and Kazakhstan Department Ilana Levi.
General coordination of the organizations that baked and delivered the matzot to the communities was provided by the EAJC Kyiv office, led by EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels and Program Director Lyudmila Braginskaya.
