EAJC Secretary General Meetings in US Department of State and National Security Council
12.05.2012 As part of the working visit of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) delegation to Washington, EAJC Secretary General Michael Chlenov and Russian Jewish Congress President Yuri Kanner visited the US Department of State and National Security Council.
The meeting in the US Department of State involved Office of Russian Affairs Director Kent Longsdon and Counsellor for Political Affairs Paul Hinshaw. The meeting in the National Security Council involved Director of of Russian and Eurasian Affairs Kari Johnstone. Both meetings involved discussions on human rights and religious freedom in EAJC countries, first and foremost in Russia, as well as other moments of current importance for the existence of Jewish communities in the former Soviet Union. The issue about repealing the Jackson-Vanik amendment for Russia was also raised. Michael Chlenov stressed that Russian Jewish organizations believe the amendment long due to be repealed.
NCSJ Executive Director Mark Levin also participated in he meeting. The NCSJ is a long-standing partner of the EAJC.
