06.06.2012 On June 5, the “Jews in Russia: a Rebirth of Traditions” exhibition was opened in the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv. The exhibition was organized by the Russian Foundation for the Restoration of Traditions “Jewish National Foundation” with the aid of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
The 60 photographs displayed at the exhibition were chosen through a competition timed to the 110th anniversary of the creation of the international Jewish National Foundation. The photographs tell stories of the restoration of Jewish traditions in Russia, about the everyday life of Jewish communities and organizations, about Jewish education, culture, and charity.
The head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Israel department Alexander Kryukov made a speech during the opening ceremony, in which he reminded the gathering that the Jewish National Foundation of Russia actively participating in restoring the forests damaged during the Mount Carmel fire. Direction of the Russian JNF Raphail Fainberg read the salutations of the Trustee Board Chairman Vladimir Shternfeld and spoke about JNF activity.
The EAJC was represented by head of the EAJC PR Department Roman Spector. In his speech, Spector noted the deep symbolism of the fact that an exhibition dedicated to the restoration of the Russian Jewish community is opening just before the anniversary of Russia's own independence. “The new life of the Jewish community began in a new Russia, and the photos displayed at the exhibitions are wonderful illustrations of its richness and diversity,” Spector noted.
