On October 28, the Moscow Saphis Celebration House hosted the celebration of the 75th birthday of the Head Rabbi of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Rabbi Council Adolph Shayevich.

Salutations were read on behalf of the First Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Alexander Torshin, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus Kirill, and the Chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis Ravil Gainutdin.

Rabbi Shayevich was greeted by the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Russia Dorit Golender, President of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner, and a multitude of representatives of Israeli and Russian NGOs and religious organization. EAJC Secretary General Michael Chlenov congratulated the Head Rabbi on behalf of the EAJC.

During the concert program, Adolph Shayevich was congratulated by Tamara Gverdciteli, accompanied by the Jewish men's choir headed by Alexander Tsalyuk, as well as, among others, Andrei Dementyev, Alexander Zhurbin, Arkady Inin, Iosif Kobzon, Alexander Levenbuk, Willy Tokaryov, Yuri Sherling, and the Russian Actor's Choic “Gene Pool”.

The even was prepared by the Vladimir Fisherman's Jewish Celebration Agency. The evening was hosted by poet Vladimir Vishnevsky.
As Michael Chlenov stressed in his speech, “Rabbi Shayevich is a Rabbi who is always with us. He preserved the Jewish tradition during those difficult years when Jewish life had practically been driven underground, he restored Jewish life after the fall of the Soviet regime, and supported its first sparks with his authority. Today he still stands at the helm of Jewish religious life in Russia, and is an example of human decency, adherence to principles, common wisdom, and devotion to faith. I hope that for Rabbi Shayevich will remain our Rabbi for many more years. To 120!”
