EAJC Leaders Participate in WJC Executive Committee Meeting
17.03.2013 On March 17, the leaders of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) took part in a meeting of the enlarged World Jewish Congress (WJC) Executive Committee, which took place in Thessaloniki (Greece). The EAJC had been represented by Congress President Vadim Shulman, Secretary General Michael Chlenov and General Council Chairman Josef Zisels.
The event was timed to the 70th year since the Jews of Thessaloniki had been sent to the Nazi death camps. Of the 50 thousand Jewish residents of Thessaloniki, 48 thousand perished during the Holocaust.
During the first half of the day, memorial events were held in the Thessaloniki synagogue, among the participants of which were not only representatives of the Greek Jewish community and the members of the enlarged Executive Committee, but also the leadership of both Thessaloniki and Greece itself, led by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the head of JAFI, Natan Scharansky.
The main documents for the WJC General Assembly, which is to be held on May 5-7 in Budapest, were discussed at the WJC Executive Committee meeting.
